Objectives

The purpose of this study is to synthesize a series of bimetallic Zn-Mn as catalytic materials for the glycolysis of PET. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy will also be estimated by kinetic study. Besides, our designed system will be tested with high durability to be used as a promising escalation at the industrial level.

Contents

This study will introduce a synergic effect of the bimetallic catalyst of Zn-Mn supported on commercial SiO2, serving as a highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the glycolysis of PET. Moreover, the addition of Mn created a strong bond with Zn, thus, reduced reducing the potential leaching of this metal into downstream products. Catalysts will be synthesized using the solvothermal method. The synthesized catalysts will be well characterized by standard surface analytical tools. The catalytic activity of prepared catalysts will be tested for the glycolysis of PET. Kinetic study will be studied and the apparent activation energy (Ea) for the catalyst will estimated. The stability of bimetallic Zn-Mn catalysts under optimal conditions will be also scrutinized to estimate its potential application in the industry.

Expected Outputs

The obtained results would show that the synthesized bimetallic Zn-Mn will be a potential candidate as a catalyst for PET to reuse plastic disposal. Moreover, this investigation throws light on the mere future for more possibilities to transform waste into environmentally friendly conversion applications. The results attained from this study will be published for the thesis. In addition, the facile synthesis of hybrid materials is expected to be utilized for the development of effective and low-cost catalysts in the future.

Objectives

The purpose of this study is to synthesize a series of M-BDC (M=Ni, Co, Cu, and Zn) metal-organic frameworks as catalytic materials for the glycolysis of PET. Furthermore, the apparent activation energy will be also estimated by kinetic study. Besides, our designed system will test with a high durability to be used as a promising escalation at the industrial level.

Contents

In this study, metal-organic framework (MOFs), a novel class of porous materials structured from metal ions/clusters and organic ligands, will be
synthesized as a promising catalyst generation for PET glycolysis. The high metal density and tunable properties of MOFs offer several benefits in catalytic study. Thus the main aim of this work is focused on the possible manipulation of MOF structure (M-BDC) for glycolysis of PET. Zn-BDC, Co-BDC, NiBDC, and Cu-BDC will be synthesized using the solvothermal method. The synthesized catalysts will be well characterized by standard surface analytical tools. The catalytic activity of prepared catalysts will be tested for the glycolysis of PET. The kinetics and stability of Zn-BDC under optimal conditions will be
also scrutinized to estimate its potential application in the industry. In addition, we will propose a new circulation for traditional close-loop recycling by a simple conversion from BHET to TPA, which is an organic linker for M-BDC synthesis.

Expected Outputs

The obtained results would show that the synthesized MOF structures will be a potential candidate as an catalyst for PET to reuse plastic disposal. Moreover, this investigation throws light on the mere future for more possibilities to transform waste into environmentally friendly conversion applications. The results attained from this study would be published for thesis. Project Title

Development of metal dichalcogenides toward accelerated electrochemical hydrogen generation

PI

Dr. Nguyen Le Tri Dang

Field

Renewable Energy

Duration

12 months

Keywords

Catalysis, Electrochemical Technology, Hydrogen production, Objectives

Objectives

The purpose of this study is to synthesize nanocomposite fabricated from metal dichalcogenides and activated carbon derived from waste as a low-cost and efficient electrocatalyst for water splitting.

Contents

In this study, metal dichalcogenides decorated porous carbon composite will be synthesized from the fruit peel. This fruit peel results in a significant amount of organic waste/biowaste. Thus the main aim of this work is focused on the possible reuse of biowaste/food waste by an inexpensive method. Growing global biowaste is a significant impact on environmental issues. Already various bio-sources were used for the preparation of carbon materials. All plant sources consist of polyphenols, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, dietary fibers, chlorophylls, carotenoids, antioxidants, etc. Therefore, here the fruit peel would be used as a carbon source to synthesize activated carbon and nano-electrocatalyst composite. The synthesized electrocatalysts will be well characterized by standard surface analytical tools. The electrochemical activity of prepared electrocatalysts will be tested for the hydrogen evolution reaction. It is expected that a large specific surface area and multi-heteroatoms doped waste-derived activated carbon are beneficial for the enhanced dispersion and intimate contact of metal dichalcogenides with carbon frameworks to enhance catalytic activity metal dichalcogenides nanoparticles.

Expected Outputs

The obtained results would show that the synthesized nanocomposites will be a potential candidate as an electrocatalyst for hydrogen production with a green way. Moreover, this investigation throws light on the mere future for more possibilities to transform solid biowaste into environmentally friendly energy conversion applications. The results attained from this study would be published for thesis. In addition, the facile synthesis of hybrid materials is expected to be utilized for the development of effective and low-cost electrocatalysts in the future.
